Dermoscopy

Dermoscopy is the examination of the skin using an optical instrument called a dermatoscope. As one of the first to practice dermoscopy in Israel (since 1996), I am considered one of the most experienced and senior in the field.

The dermatoscopic examination allows a skilled examiner to discern very subtle findings in the skin and skin lesions, such as those that cannot be detected with the naked eye. In the field of early detection of skin cancer and in the field of dermatology in general, the dermoscopic examination is of great importance in immediate and accurate diagnosis in a way that often eliminates the need for a biopsy and histological examination to diagnose the nature of the lesion or type of disease.

This often saves the patient both the discomfort associated with performing a biopsy and the wait to receive an answer. In other cases, lesions are identified in which there are subtle changes that cannot be detected otherwise, which may indicate a problem and cause the lesions to be resected or biopsied at the earliest possible stages.
